SOPHIA CARIDAD
CHILDREN'S WEAR DESIGNER

Hello
My name is Sophia. I'm a proud Latina, and I've been a teacher assistant working with infants at a daycare for five years. I'm currently a fashion student attending college to enhance my skills and become a children's wear designer. I've always loved working with kids, they bring me joy, and I'm often called the "baby whisperer."
My Story
Choosing children’s wear came from my love for kids and the connection I have with them. I didn’t choose education because I want to follow what I’m truly passionate about. As Langston Hughes once said, “Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly.”
I love the experience I’m having in school. My favorite part of this journey is seeing the passion in others—the creativity in their outfits and the imagination that comes to life. You can really see what captivates them.
One thing I’ve learned from my professors is that everyone is telling a story. I’ve always loved reading and reading to the children I work with, so being able to tell a story through something people can wear is a powerful form of expression. My narrative is about being my free-spirited self, which I express through playful colors, mixed textiles, and bold patterns. I love experimenting with color and fabric, and I enjoy hand stitching and admire embroidery work.
